Since the 1995 original establishment designed by Mario Botta couldn’t sustain it growing collection and rising number of visitors, SFMOMA broke grounds to the new edition to the museum by Snøhetta in 2013. After three years-2016-reopened to the public with an additional 142,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space.
