New Leadership Steps Up to the Plate

Valerio Dewalt Train has promoted four of its Chicago staff members. Matthew Gamache, Robert Webber, and Tom Daly have each been promoted to firm Principals, and Lauren Shelton has been promoted to Senior Associate.

Robert Webber, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, joined the firm in 2003, and has been integral to advancing the firm’s sustainable design efforts, becoming Chief Sustainability Officer in 2016. His work includes projects for University of Chicago Lab Schools, an office building at University Research Park in Madison, Wisconsin, and a Canopy hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is currently working on a multi family apartment complex in Chicago’s Uptown Neighborhood. Robert is the founder of buildGREEN(or)die, Valerio Dewalt Train’s in-house sustainability team, and the co-founder of the Living Building Challenge Collaborative Chicago. He received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan and his Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan.

Tom Daly, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, joined the firm in 2002 and is a key leader in firm operations. His project experience includes the new urban mid-rise residences and office building renovations at 25 W. Main, and the urban residential mid-rise Seven27 in Madison, Wisconsin, in addition to a student housing complex for the University of California San Diego. He is currently working on an affordable housing apartment complex in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood and renovations for Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium. Tom also led the implementation of advanced rendering and virtual reality technologies for the firm and is the co-founder of the firm’s Collaborative Design Workshop. He received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from the University of Virginia and his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Illinois Chicago.

Matt Gamache, AIA, LEED AP, joined the firm in 2007 and has been a leading voice in design conversations. He is passionate about making a positive impact on the user’s lives, and believes that good design is iterative, inquisitive, and gutsy. A leader of the firm’s internal Collaborative Design Workshop, he led visioning for the University Research Park project in Madison, Wisconsin, and numerous Bay Area tech campuses. Matt's current projects include renovations at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, and an affordable housing apartment complex in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood. Outside of the office, Matt volunteers with local neighborhood YMCA and art organizations and tutors elementary students from Chicago Public Schools. He received his Master of Architecture and his Bachelor of Science in Architecture degrees from the University of Minnesota.

Lauren Shelton, AIA, LEED AP, joined the firm in 2007. She was apart of the management team for the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Student Housing South project; the Edison Apartment building in Denver; and the Leroy Neiman Student Center at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is currently part of the management team for the Shedd Aquarium renovation project in Chicago. The leader of the firm’s 2030 commitment involvement, Lauren is an integral member of in-house sustainability team, buildGREEN(or)die. She is also involved with AIA Chicago and serves on the Ohio State School of Architecture Career Services advisory board, in addition to serving as a mentor for the Ohio State and University of Michigan mentor networks.. She received her Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan and her Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from Ohio State University.
