Smart Tech

As the implementation of smart technology into everyday life advances, so does the desire for it be integrated into multi-family housing. Alexa, Nest Thermostats, and USB in-unit ports have been seen as a luxury, but such conveniences among future generations may appear to be the standard.

Generation Z is the first cohort to have grown up entirely immersed in a technology-driven world. They are accustomed to on-demand access to information, resources and people through computers, cell phones and social media.  [7]

After conducting surveys across all VDTA offices only 3% of respondents stated that smart technology was 1 of the 3 most important factors to them in their current home. In comparison, 18% stated that smart technology was 1 of the 3 factors that they aspired to have in their future home.

The advancement in technology allows for greater connectivity, flexibility, and convenience. These advancements allow residents to have access to a range of services on demand, immediate control of in-unit appliances and security and increase the ability to work from home.
